Immigration
The American immigration system must be fixed. Not only must we secure all points of entry into the U.S. against illegal entry, but we must humanely enforce immigration laws, deal with those who overstay their visas, and hold employers who hire undocumented immigrants responsible. Fred Johnson believes we need to find a fair, realistic, and comprehensive solution that creates a guest worker program and respects both American Law and the dignity of those seeking a path to citizenship.
Fred supports:
- Streamlining the bureaucracy of the immigration system so that the current 10 year wait for some cases is reduced and that the fees required are fair and reasonable.
- Making sure that immigrant dependent industries remain adequately supported through a strong and fairly administered guest worker program.
- Ensuring that border patrol and customs agencies are adequately staffed, funded and equipped to strengthen and maintain border security.
Incumbent Rep. Peter Hoekstra's Record:
- voted to build a wall that covers 700 miles of the 1950 mile border between Mexico and the US (H.R. 6061)
