Family Values
The American family is central to life in the United States. Fred Johnson believes that children prosper best in families with loving, stable households. While a woman’s right to choose must be preserved, prevention education, access to adoption and parental support should be increased so that women and their families do not feel they need to make a difficult and tragic decision. Expanding access to affordable childcare and healthcare will help American families both at home and at work.
Fred supports:
- Following Senator Obama’s lead in reforming the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit to make it refundable and allowing our families who need it the most to receive up to a 50 percent credit for their child care expenses.
- Ensuring that all children have access to the healthcare they need, through the expansion of programs, such as SCHIP.
- Expanding the Family and Medical Leave Act to cover businesses with as few as 25 employees and to allow employees to take care of their older family members, better support their children’s academic pursuits, and resolve emergencies arising as a result of domestic violence and sexual assault.
